The Boy's Dental Appointments

What a great experience! I'm so glad they don't mind going to the Dentist and act so well. I'm trying not to pass my 'dental phobia' to them and I guess it's working. I wish the importance of oral health would've been implemented more when I was there age!

Anyway, we go this morning (that place was hard to find!). Everyone was so nice. The Hygenists went on and on at how wonderful Jonathan and Seth's teeth are. Perfect bites(my children???), perfect spacing, perfect health! And then the Dentist comes in, a sweet man who looks remotely like my grandfather...seriously, and says how perfect their teeth are. But you know what made me really proud??? Everyone commenting on how well they behaved and how mannerly they were. The Dentist said they don't see such mannerly children (a Pediatric practice) that often. Makes no sense to me why manners aren't stressed now-a-days (maybe it's this area???), but I'm sure glad that my boys are the exception.

BUNCO NIGHT IS HERE!!!

YAY! I love Bunco. Can't wait til 7! I'm making a yummy cheese pie to take. I hope it turns out as good as Rena's. Here's the recipe if any of you want it:

Cheese Pie

1 egg beaten
1 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
1 cup diced Muenster cheese

Mix first 3 ingredients, add cheese and place in a 9 inch pie plate. Bake for 30 minutes at 450.

Conversation with Jonathan

Jonathan: "Mommy...can I help you clean?".
Me: "Sure Jonathan! That would be so nice. You know it's never too early to start learning how to clean.".
Jonathan: "De-De sure taught you how to clean good.".
Me: "Yes she did.".
Jonathan: after a long pause..."How come Ne-Ne didn't teach Daddy?"!

I laughed so hard, but in all honesty, I am SO lucky to have a husband that cleans and helps and does a good job at it. It's just funny to see a child's perpective on things. :)

Frustrated

It's frustrating going to church here. I know it shouldn't be, but it is. It's hard being a southern baptist where we live. But you know, we aren't even picky about the denomination (huge step for my husband). A non-denominational church would be great if it suited our needs. Like not walking 8 blocks in the snow or just walking 8 blocks at all! Actually getting a seat. Having a way to get to know people. Having our children happy and welcomed and greeted.

The church we are attending has about, gosh I don't know, maybe 8-10,000 active members??? It's big for us. I'm so glad it meets the needs of others and most importantly, bringing souls to Christ, but we feel it's just too large for us. We want to get to know others Christians and try to develop relationships while we are here.

So we go visit another church yesterday. They have an ad in our base newspaper and someone I know said it was a nice size and Bible believing. Nobody greeted us. Nobody even looked at us. We were lost. Didn't know where to go. Didn't know where our kids should go. Everyone was talking and laughing outside...having a good ol' time and here we were. So I finally flag down a lady, actually interupt her conversation telling her it's our first time and ask where our kids should be. She directs us to their room. Two adults were standing there talking, I'm assuming they are the teachers??? Didn't say a word to us. Didn't greet us, ask us our name. Ask the kid's their name. Tell them what to do. Ask us any questions. Seth has allergies and needs to know right where the restroom is. So we tell the boys we'll be right back. They find some toys and stick together. And then Nate and I just kinda lurk around at the door. Both of us feel terribly uncomfortable leaving them. But we head to the sanctuary nonetheless, the whole time I'm feeling uneasy. So we go in...not a seat one. PLENTY of room on the pews, but nobody offers us their seat or moves to the center. And we weren't even late! No ushers. No greeters. So I say, "Let's just go". And we high-tail it to where the kids are and get the heck out of there. It was depressing.

I don't want to just forget about church while we are here, but it seems like an option. It's just really frustrating. I'm praying that God will lead us where we need to be. Maybe it's back to where we are going. Maybe we are/were too comfortable in Oklahoma where churches are on every block, southern baptist ones at that! Do we need out of our comfort zone a bit? I just want my kids to be happy and welcomed and SAFE. And THEY are at Grace so...

Monday Musings

It's rainy. It's cold. It's boring here. So what do the kids and I do???? We go shop! Michael's has their cute ribbon for $1 a spool. Used my 40 percent off coupon for a Xyron refill. Got some new markers for the boys. Then we are off to AC Moore. It's a decent store...still doesn't take the place of my Hobby Lobby, but it will do for now. A HUGE prerequisite for Nathan's next duty assignment depends upon if there's a HL in close driving proximity. :) Anyway, got some of the coolest Wordsworth clear stamps! Lots of greetings and some neat flowers. I needed "Thank you" "Get Well Soon" "Happy Birthday" sayings for cards. Used my 40 percent off coupon and got them for less than $10! Went to Stop and Shop and got some necessities...you know, chips, Coke, stuff like that. :)

Now we are back home...boys are coloring and I'm updating here. Seth is fine...never anything except that high fever. It's the wierdest thing, but I'm glad he's ok.

Thinking something else is up with Seth and other daily stuff

Just about every time Seth hears a noise, like an out of the ordinary noise, he says, "That hurts 'mine' ears". I'm sure that's what the high fever was all about. I'm going to call first thing in the morning and make him an appointment with the Ped.

Speaking of noises, every week day at 4:30, The National Anthem plays on the loudspeaker here on base. Well the other day Jonathan came to me saying, "Mom I know what they are playing! It's the National Idol!"! Think we watch too much TV around here? :)

We've had a great day! Met friends at a really neat park off base. Had a picnic lunch. I had too many crunchy veggies in my salad so now my jaw hurts. I should know better, but geez, I want to be able to eat normally and somewhat healthy.

I was thinking about running out to the mall, maybe taking the kids to The Rainforest since it's free kid's night, but Seth is sleeping now and doesn't feel good. Maybe next week. I "need" to go to Target too. I wish they'd get those neat Making Memories kits. I want to make some wreaths and clocks.

As far as AI tonight, I'm predicting Kellie will get the ax. I'm honestly sick of the whole dingy persona. I hate to say it because I don't want it to happen, but I think Elliott will be in the bottom 3. I wish it would be Kellie, Ace, and Paris...we shall see. I love Taylor more and more each week! He's so entertaining!

Fun Easter Weekend

What a fun weekend we had! Saturday, a friend and I went to a yard sale and then our family went into Boston for the day. We found out that we could park for free at the Coast Guard station right in downtown Boston! Free parking in Boston is a HUGE benefit. Glad we know about it. Anyway, we had authentic Italian food in the North End...ate it for dirt cheap too! Then we headed over to the Swan boats in the garden. It was opening day, but amazingly, we didn't have to wait in line long. The boys loved it. It's really neat to see the book "Make Way for Ducklings" come to life. After that, we walked around the wharf relaxed by the water. I really am fascinated by all the huge boats.

Yesterday we went to early church...yes 8AM! We made it...can't believe it! Then I came home and cooked lunch for us and some of our friends. Our friends Kevin and Christine totally spoiled the boys...brought them firetruck and police car easter baskets, complete with sirens and enough candy to last til' next Easter! My friend Jill brought me a beautiful basket of pansies, purple ones! I love flowers this time of year especially.

After our friends left, we all lounged around and Seth went to sleep. He slept and slept and slept and then when he woke up finally, he was burning up with a fever. It was the wierdest thing. High fever all day and all night (even up to almost 104) and he's totally fine today. Hmmmm...hope there's nothing else to come.

I'm considering getting an outdoor set for our patio. Like a table with chairs and an umbrella. I think we need it when we entertain guests. Plus when the boys play in the backyard, I like sitting outside and something like that would be perfect. We'll see. Either this or some nice seating for our front porch. Our quarters are small, but we do have a nice sized front porch. I would actually love a swing!

Bye-Bye Bucky

Bucky's gone. I wasn't surprised really. I was mad that Elliott was in the bottom 3 because he's one of my top 3 favorites (Taylor and Chris are the other 2). But you know what, I was so emotional when he got cut!! I know...crazy, but I was! I think the whole family video clips and their hometown stuff made me sad. Bucky's dad was so sweet. I loved his redneck accent...kinda reminded me of my dad a little. I've been thinking about my dad alot lately...maybe that's why I was a basketcase...I dunno. But anyway...I think Ace will be next. Just my prediction and hoping it's not Elliott!

Got My Tax Refund and...

I spent it on the kids. Didn't get the cubby shelf I really want at Pier 1. I really enjoy buying things for others, especially my boys. It makes me happy. It makes me happy when they are happy. They got some really cool light up construction hats at our local toy store. They love them! Also some cute clothes too. It's fun to buy clothes for them. Always guaranteed to fit. No trying on. They are inexpensive (I find bargains!) and everything coordinates! I did get some of those great Crate papers though and an acrylic block for my stamps. Now I just need to take the time to sit down and play with them. Maybe tonight after J & S go to bed.

We just got home from the playground. It's beautiful here. Seth's napping. He came up to me at the playground and said, "Mommy can we go home so I can take a nap?"! I about fell over! But he has had an eventful, playful day. First gymnastics and then the playground after a big lunch.

Jonathan's getting pretty good on his bike. Still training wheels, but it's a huge step even getting him to pedal. I think it's just that he really loves his helmet. :) Whatever works!

Now I'm off to see what Jonathan's doing. Wonder if I can persuade him to nap too? ;)
Got this challenge from 2Peas.

1. List 5 hobbies that sound fun, besides scrapbooking! Scuba Diving, Quilting, Biking, Painting, Gardening, Golfing.

2. List 5 classes that sound fun! Basketweaving (no seriously!), Culinary class, Creative writing, Journalism, Photography.

3. List 5 things you personally would never do that sound fun. Go on an African safari...I'm too scared of snakes, Hang gliding, Skydiving, Climb a mountain, Deep sea fishing.

4. LIst 5 skills that would be fun to have. To play the piano, To be able to quilt...like my grandama could, To be a good golfer, to be a long distance runner...like being able to run the Boston Marathon, To be able to knit...I mean I have the basics, but knit really well.

5. List 5 things you used to enjoy doing. Running, playing basketball, teaching, staying up late, swimming.

6. List 5 silly things you would like to try once. I don't know that there's really anything silly I'd like to try that I already haven't. I know...boring!

And I want to go to Children's Orchard to see what summer clothes (wonder if it will ever get there?) they have for the boys.

Tuesday Ramblings

I got a really good night's sleep last night so I'm feeling good today. No headache. No jaw pain! Knock on wood! Nathan's working locally today so he's picking up Jonathan at preschool and then we are meeting for lunch. Probably Fuddrucker's. That's his favorite place! I like it too, but I'm not in a hamburger mood really. Maybe I'll just get the fries since I love that cheese!

Took Jonathan to school this morning. It's so nice being so close where we can walk. I actually pulled them in the wagon today. Anyway, we get there and since it's 'team spirit day', all the kids were decked out in their red, white, and blue...either Red Sox or Patriot gear. Then here comes the little guy with the Oklahoma Sooner shirt. He told his teacher that's where he was going to play football when he got all big and grown. :)

Seth's playing with his train table right here. Amazing how kids will completely sidestep a toy for a while and then come back to it and love it. We moved the table in the guest room, here where the computer is so of course he had to check it out! Of course firefighters nnnnneeeeeeevvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrr go out of style around here!

Seth was funny this morning. Jonathan accidentally stepped on his foot. Seth came running to me saying, "Jon-Jon hurt myself mommy!"! :) I always say what did we ever laugh at before having kids?

What's getting me by this morning. Ugh...woke up at 4AM with TMJ pain, after not getting to bed until nearly 2AM with the same. Finally went back to sleep around 5:30AM and then woke up again to the sound of pitter-pattering feet at 6:40. Needless to say, I'm exhausted! Thank goodness for Diet DP and Tylenol!

This was a good weekend

Didn't do too much really. Yesterday we went to Barnes and Noble. Got two magazines, Country Living and Cookie. It was the first time reading Cookie and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It focuses mainly on parenting...fun things to do with your kids, ideas, recipes, etc. I just might have to subscribe! I am a full-fledge magazine junky. I currently subscribe to Southern Living (and will always!), Better Homes and Gardens, Parenting, and Creating Keepsakes. Also moseyed over to Starbucks and got one of my favorite drinks. A Tazo Passion Tea with lemonade! YUMMY! Seth will get his own next time because he came over and guzzled it down. The kid knows what's good! :)

Had a relaxing evening at home. Played 'firehouse' with the kids, got them in bed, and then read my magazines while Nate went to the "Battle of the Bands" in Cambridge. Something work related...advertising stuff.

Today we took a Sunday drive down to the now closed Weymouth Naval Air Station. It was so sad driving through...everything all run down, grown up, and desolate. It reminded me of the crash site on Con-Air! Some of the housing is still open to Coast Guard members, but all in all, it's like a little ghost town on the outskirts of metro Boston. Since we were down that way, we stopped by the Christmas Tree Shop and then I persuaded Nate to drive over to the Wrentham Outlets. I wanted to know where it is, even though I didn't really have intentions of doing much shopping. The kids were tired and we didn't have a stroller for Seth. Oh well, another day. :)
Well...I did it. Finally created a blog. Mainly to share with family and friends back home and all over the world! It's just my everyday, random thoughts as well as the occasional picture to share.
