Field Day

On Friday, May 7th, the boy's school held their annual Field Day. Field Day is a big deal and so much fun! It's so nice to see the kids enjoying themselves, getting some exercise a break from the everyday routine. Luckily, I could get a sub so I wouldn't have to miss it...especially the last one we'll be attending at this school. That makes me SAD!! Here are some photos I'm sharing from that day.

Barksdale AFB Air Show 2010

This past Sunday, we went to the airshow on base. We had a great time, as usual! Got a little sunburned (you'd think after like 10 airshows, I'd know better!) though. Here are some photos I took. The Thunderbirds performed. They are amazing! I am always in awe at their skill and precision. They are the best of the best. Also, got a full tour of Nathan's favorite, the KC-10. Back before going over to the darkside of recruiting, Nathan used to be an electrician on the KC-10. It's such a neat plane with an amazing mission. They refuel planes in the air! Jonathan was so fascinated by it! He wants to be a pilot when he grows up and he told the pilot on the 10, "I'm going to fly this one day!"...of course made Nathan's day! I have flown on the 10 twice. The first time, I even got to sit in the cockpit during the landing! Both times, I got to see an actual refueling of planes in the air, right in the "bottom", not sure of the technical term where the Boom Operator sits. What a neat job, Boom Operators sure have to have a steady hand! I'm grateful for the experiences and grateful for being able to see that plane again. The first plane, after the Thunderbirds is a C-130. Nathan's cousin Chris that comes to see us once in a while from Little Rock AFB flies one of these. The one pictured though came from Keesler AFB, MS. This plane is a "Hurricane Hunter"...actually flying right into hurricanes for forecasting! Neat too, it's all Reserve mission! Jonathan had a blast watching the planes, but he seemed more interested in touring the displayed planes instead of actually watching the show. Seth of course was all about the silly, $4, blow-up, plastic, machine gun! Ha!

More Progress AND...

we sold our house! It sure is bittersweet. Lots of great memories here and at Barksdale as a whole. It is a relief to sell it, but I sure will miss this house, my neighbors (well most of them, lol!), this neighborhood. Trying to just stay excited about our new adventure to Warner Robins. Here were some photos we took on our visit two weeks ago. Yeah, I'm way behind!

New House!

This is the plan for our new home that we are building! Only difference is that we are changing the entry of the garage from side to front.

I haven't updated my blog in a while! Lots going on! We went to Georgia for Spring Break. We soon realized that the rental market was horrible there so decided that we'd look at buying. Well, within a week, we had decided to build and as you can see below, it has taken off from there!! Our awesome builder/contractor sent these pictures tonight. I hate to bombard here, but often, I'll be posting pictures of the progress and just typical "building a house" things. It's neat to look back and see everything (and for scrapbooking reasons) and I have friends and family that have requested I put it all on my blog. So here ya go! So far! We are so excited! I just pray this one here sells within the next three months.

We have bought on a 1/2 acre lot in a neat subdivision that is loaded with pecan trees!

Poison Ivy

My poor baby got poison ivy!

John Mayer

On Tuesday, March 9th, Nathan and I headed to Dallas to see my favorite John Mayer! We had a fabulous time and I rocked with all the fans! It was an amazing concert...John Mayer concentrated on what makes me love him, his music and he kept his mouth shut regarding anything but the music! Nate and I had a blast...we ate at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Dallas and stayed at a wonderful hotel (that gave a wonderful military discount, love that perk!), the Sheraton, not far from American Airlines Center. I'm trying to get tickets to his outdoor show in Atlanta on September 8th! :)

Lemon Loaf

I made this yummy lemon loaf last night. I love anything lemon! It reminds me of spring and summer and since we are aren't getting snow around here anymore, I'm ready for spring!

Here's the recipe. I substituted the oil for 1/2 cup of applesauce to save on fat and it still tasted wonderful! Next time, I think I'll try just the egg whites to see if I can save there.

Lemon Loaf

Ingredients

1 and 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 T softened butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 T lemon extract
1/3 cup lemon juice
grated lemon rind (I used 1/2 a lemon's worth in batter and 1/2 in glaze)
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I subbed 1/2 c of applesauce)

---Lemon Icing---

1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 T water
1 t lemon juice
grated lemon rind

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, blend eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla, lemon extract, lemon rind, and lemon juice with an electric mixer.

Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix just until smooth.

Pour into a well-greased 9 x 5 loaf pan and bake for 55 minutes.

When loaf is cool, remove from pan and ice with icing.

Slice into 1" slices.
